In 1968, famed street and fashion photographer Bill Cunningham embarked on an eight-year photography project to document the fashion history of New York City. After scouring hundreds of vintage shops and auction houses for antique frocks, Cunningham photographed models at locales he scouted specifically for the project. Now, more than 45 years later, the New-York Historical Society presents 88 silver gelatin prints from the collection in Bill Cunningham: Façades. The exhibit, which celebrates the 85-year-old photographer who is most known for his New York Times weekly column “On The Street,” runs until June 15. nyhistory.org —J.T.
