Smooth Over

Known for its Japanese Hair Straightening system, Yuko added a mild Deep Conditioning Treatment to its professional salon service line. This gentle, moisturizing treatment aims to make hair silky soft with a combination of proteins and vital nutrients. Key ingredient meadowfoam seed oil, most commonly found in skincare products and makeup, is lightweight and when heated, bonds to hair to provide nourishment deep into the shaft. Additionally, a blend of silk, soy and wheat protein is designed to improve the health, softness and strength of strands and results can last through 10 washes. The treatment works to lock in hair’s moisture and seal the cuticle without altering natural texture or shape. yuko-usa.com —J.B.

Pink Ladies

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, encouraging support of medical research in the fight against breast cancer and emphasizing education and treatment for early detection in the ongoing battle against the disease. To do their part, salons across the country host events to raise awareness. Bliss Salon in Redlands, CA participates in the Redlands Believe Walk, while Salon Eva Michelle in Boston celebrated its one-year anniversary by raising money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Along with holding events, salons can carry specialty retail products that give back, and haircare companies make sure to have a supply of products that fit the mission. In 2012, Scruples donated $20,000 to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure through the High Definition Shaping Spray promotion. This year, John Paul Mitchell Systems is raising awareness with its The Girls Are Alright! campaign that includes a set of limited-edition tools and styling products in an eye-catching design (Hot Off The Press Thermal Protection Hairspray is seen here). Visit americansalonmag.com for our 2013 Think Pink! Title Wave

Sharing your hair creations via social networking or your salon’s website is one of the best ways to showcase your work and market yourself and your business. Now you can enhance your photos with text, then share them on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or Instagram using your iPhone or iPad with Over, the new app by Potluck. The app, which comes with a variety of decorative fonts, makes it easy to size and position text, turning ordinary snaps into powerful, targeted messages. Over allows images to be uploaded from wherever you are—no desk time necessary—and enables the addition of artwork, so images can bear your business’ logo and cement your brand image. madewithover.com —K.F.
