Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2013 NYC: Alice + Olivia

Fantasy Street Style was the name of the game at the Alice + Olivia presentation at the Highline Stages Monday. Moroccanoil Artistic Director Antonio Corral Calero entwined messy French braids for a sophisticated and playful updo, using braided extensions where needed. “It’s a mix of rock 'n’ roll but sexy and feminine,” Calero said.

First, the hair was prepped with Moroccanoil Treatment, sprayed with Heat Styling Protection and saturated with Volumizing Mousse before being blow-dried straight. After making a center part, Calero pulled the hair back and swept it over the ears, allowing loose strands to fall forward. Then he quickly created a messy French braid from the front to the back on each side of the part, pulling out a few more strands at the front for a wispy, unpolished effect. After securing the ends of the two braids with elastics, he crossed them in opposite directions around the head like a crown, so the entire head was encircled in a braid. For models with finer hair, Calero added braided extensions, cutting them to fit, and pinned them at the top of the head to enhance volume and height. Once all braids were in place and secured with extra bobby pins, he loosened them to create a more unrefined look before lightly misting them with Glimmer Shine Spray. The braids on some models were decorated with fresh roses for a beautiful, romantic Renaissance style.

For makeup, Sarah Lucero for Stila first created an even skin tone with high shine. A metallic gold eye shadow was painted on the lid for a romantic glow, enhanced by mascara and a touch of eyeliner, and the lip was painted a black cherry. NCLA owner Elin Dannerstedt created three nail looks for the presentation: a creamy red; a navy blue; and black and  white nail stickers in a plaid print pulled straight from the Alice + Olivia collection.
