Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014 NYC: Badgley Mischka

The Badgley Mischka Spring 2014 collection was inspired by seaside glamour both above and below the water. Spring pastels in ocean shades created the vision of the modern mermaid, the theme throughout the show. Runway Stylist Peter Gray for Moroccanoil drew inspiration from photographer Jacque Henri Lartigue, who captured the seaside in the south of France during the 1920s and '30s.

For the hair, he incorporated soft waves, matte textures, glossy shine and flattering rolls on the lower nape of the neck. For the hair, Gray started out creating a small horizontal braid at the nape of the neck using it as a base for pinning. To prep, he applied Moroccanoil Treatment Light to the middle of the hair to the ends then sprayed Moroccanoil Root Boost to the entire head. Moroccanoil Treatment was then used to keep the hair smooth and protect it from the hot curling irons. Before roughly drying the hair, Gray applied Moroccanoil Root Boost to preserve a three-dimensional, semi-matte wave while giving the ends added texture. He went on to use Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Strong to help set the hair while using a 1.5 inch curling iron starting at the nape of the neck up to the ear, pinning the curls in opposite directions creating soft, textured movement. The hair in the front and sides were set vertically all in the same direction then clipped. He then combed out each section then used a skinny brush to smooth the surface and add gloss. To construct the look, he rolled the hair into small, loose horizontal rolls at the nape of the neck and secured each one using u-pins to the braid underneath. Finally, he sprayed a small about of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to his hands then applied to the surface for extra shine on the top and sides.

For the nails, Deborah Lippmann created a rounded nail giving it a delicate, feminine look. She applied two new shades set to debut in Spring 2014 Blue Orchid, a soft baby blue, and La Vie En Rose, a paisley pastel pink with a golden sheen. First, she polished the nails with two coats of Blue Orchid followed by one coat of La Vie En Rose. The finished look resembled the sun’s reflection on a clear blue sea.
