Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014 NYC: Adam Selman
Backstage before the presentation of Adam Selman's premiere collection, we were transported to a retro time as Selman called on urban street wear and the 1978 film Eyes of Laura Mars for inspiration. Hair lead Holli Smith for Oribe Hair Care created three styles, looking to vintage magazine covers for hairdos that would complement Selman’s designs. Two of the styles had elements of volume in the front and texture throughout the ends, while the other was a sleek side bun with wisps in the front to add some softness.
To create the low chignon, Smith sprayed Oribe Maximista thickening spray throughout hair, concentrating at the roots, and blow-dried hair using a paddle brush. She swept hair across the head to the right shoulder, smoothing the hair down with the brush as she styled. She then used a paddle brush to gather hair at the nape of the neck into a low ponytail, then secured. Next, she twisted the ponytail into a bun and secured with pins. Lastly, she gently rubbed along the hairline to pull out little wisps of hair and finished with Superfine Strong Hair Spray to hold the look in place.
For makeup, Aaron de Mey called on Mac Cosmetics to create dramatic green eyes, extending shadow to the tip of the eyebrow and ending with a soft, faded corner. Green shadow also colored under the eye.
Madeline Poole led nails, creating a “nice, clean hand” using Ciate’s Boudoir, a flirty red hue.
