Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014 NYC: Pamela Roland
Ted Gibson and Devin Toth, education director for the Ted Gibson Academy, lead the hair look for the spring 2014 collection of Pamela Roland. The look was sophisticated and beautiful and an homage to Brigitte Bardot. With a clothing collection reminiscent of the French 1960s girl with contemporary designs, Gibson and Toth created a modern beehive.
"This look is inspired by 60s Brigitte Bardot and Cannes. I absolutely love that era and am so happy that I got to create something so classic, but of course with a modern gibson girl twist," said Gibson.
To create this look, Gibson applied Ted Gibson Hairsheet styling and Build It Blow Drying Agent to create texture. He then blow dried the hair away from the face and parted locks in a deep side part. Next, the hair was backcombed at the top to create height and brushed back into an asymmetrical ponytail. The pony was then accented with a Bliss Lau leather hair wrap and finished with Ted Gibson Beautiful Hold Hairspray to keep everything in place.
Playing off of Roland's inspiration of the decadence of the Cannes Film Festival of the early 1960s, Matin Maulawizada, global artistry director for Laura Mercier created makeup to reflect this time, but with modern appeal. As Maulawizada noted, the attitude of this girl was quite nonchalant and they kept their makeup looks much more smudgy and sexy as opposed to the polished British and American women of the time. Maulawizada used Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Creme Compact Broad Spectrum to create a flawless finish. He used Laura Mercier Creme Cheek Colour in Sunrise and Rosebud for a natural rosy flush.
Sunrise was also used for the eyelids to add a peachy backdrop Matte Eye Colour in Truffle smudged along the lash line. A coat of Laura Mercier Faux Lash Mascara was applied to the lashes. The brown color was used on the lash line to offer a modern take on the 1960's eyes as opposed to going completely mod with a black liner. The lips were kept pinky/peachy by first staining the lips with Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour in Mod and then coating with Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Brigitte.
