Mercedes-Benz Fall 2012 Fashion Week NYC: Patrick Ervell
Contrast was the star of Patrick Ervell’s fall 2012 collection that stayed true to the designer’s infamous edgy, androgynous aesthetic. The women walked the runway in looks that combined matte and shiny, hard and soft, utilitarian and romantic. While the Patrik Ervell men mixed minimalism and tailoring, sophistication and youth, aggression and playful. To match the texture story, Ervell enlisted the equally cutting-edge talents of long-time friend and stylist Holli Smith. With an Oribe team recruited from Oribe salons nationwide, Smith also played on texture. Inspired by the shiny industrial materials in the collection, there was not a dry strand in the house for the female models, whose locks weren’t far from dripping as they took the runway. On men, the master dry cutter created a dramatic contrast, with brush stroked sides and dry textured tops with an extra helping of volume. The tops were doused with Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray, Dry Texture Spray and Super Fine Stronghold Hairspray. She also added Soft Lacquer Hairspray to hold the frizz and curl stylists created for a natural finish. —M.R.
