In addition to serving as senior editor for American Salon, Jolene Turner is responsible for spearheading the publication's digital media activities. Turner writes and researches topics related to hair and skincare, from new technological advancements to what salon owners are doing to make their businesses a success. Outside of work, Jolene volunteers for the NYC-based non-profit Anjellicle Cats Rescue and writes and performs comedy theater.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2013 NYC: Marc Jacobs
The show was Marc Jacobs and the look was Joan Jett meets Marianne Faithfull meets punk rock chic— with the help of Redken Creative Consultant Guido and Francois Nars, founder and creative director of Nars Cosmetics, the look was achieved.
Shown in a sepia-toned circular runway, the girls rocked wigs that Guido and his team cut and tailored for 55 models. The punky wig shapes were created to highlight the boyish cuts in some of the designer's styles and additionally to contrast with the other rich, metallic, satin pieces.
"The look was sprayed with water and Redken's shine flash 02 right before the girls walked to give it a wet-looking, shiny, even sweaty feel," Guido said. "It was a look at once grungy, raw, and real - and I cut each wig with a razor once the model had it on to fit it to her face for a spiky, punky, choppy end result."
,p>For the face, Nars stayed away from color completely to create a black and white look that was very "Marc Jacobs" The look included a light, smokey eye and a touch of oil on the lid so the girl didn't look absolutely perfect. "It shows that the girl was out and about for the night and she was having a good time," Nars said.
