Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring '11 NYC: Jason Wu
Jason Wu's spring '11 collection, shown in a fashionable SoHo loft, was inspired by the work of Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes, whose artwork features bright and colorful abstract patterns. To complement the feminine clothing, Odile Gilbert, lead hairstylist stylist for Aveda, created pretty updos that featured looped braids entwined with with chiffon fabric in shades of taupe, beige and black. "It's very sophisticated but simple too—everyone can do it," Gilbert said. To get the look, Gilbert prepped damp hair with Aveda Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother, created a side part and then blow-dried it straight. Next she pulled the hair tightly back and separated it into four sections, through which she braided the fabric. Finally, she collected all four braids and tied the fabric into a large bow at the end. Aveda Control Force Firm Hold Hair Spray held the look in place.
The stunning makeup look, created by Diane Kendal for Shiseido, featured brilliant eye makeup in shades of either gold and green, pink and purple, or turquoise and purple, depending on the models' complexion and haircolor. CND was also on hand to ensure nails were equally pretty. Toenails were painted with a new duo called Perfectly Bare, expected April 2011, while fingernails were painted with Veronica, from CND's sure-to-be-coveted Jason Wu capsule collection, lauching May/June 2011.
