Mercedes-Benz Spring 2012 Fashion Week NYC: Helmut Lang

Paul Hanlon, lead stylist for TIGI, created a messy, wet-looking knotted ponytail for the models at Helmut Lang's show, held at Pier 57. "It's like a girl who's been to a rock concert, pulled her hair into a knot and headed home," he said. The sporty, simple look perfectly complemented the collection, which featured predominantly black and white pieces, many with graphic cutouts. Hanlon achieved the look by prepping the hair with TIGI Catwalk Session Series Salt Spray, then applied Session Series Styling cream to give the hair a wet appearance. He then pulled the hair into a ponytail and tied it partially up into a knot using two big shoelaces. Finally, he sprayed the hair with Your Highness Weightless Shine Spray and pulled strands out here and there to give the look an organic, deconstructed feeling.

Lisa Butler for Temptu created the makeup look, which featured a strong brow and eye with lots of mascara, softly glowing cheeks and a nude lip. Temptu's airbrush system helped the makeup artists speed through applications, which averaged five to seven minutes per model.
