Mercedes-Benz Spring 2012 Fashion Week NYC: Badgley Mischka
At Badgley Mischka's spring collection, shown at the tents at Lincoln Center, a number of intriguing references inspired lead hairstylist for Moroccanoil Peter Gray to create the dramatic updos for the show, including Italian sculptor Umberto Boccioni and Elizabeth Taylor in the movie Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. To get the look, Gray prepped the hair with a cocktail of Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream and new Frizz Control, then pulled it into two sections. He created a voluminous French pleat with the back section of hair and curled the front with a 1-inch iron, spraying Luminous Hairspray on sections of hair from roots to ends before curling. After setting the hair and allowing it to cool, Gray separated the curls with a wide-tooth comb for an airy effect sans frizz.
Lead makeup artist for M.A.C Tom Pecheux created an equally elegant and striking makeup look, inspired by Marilyn Monroe and Greta Garbo. Pecheux applied a thick dark khaki green line of shadow at the base of the eye with winged edges, gave cheeks a peachy glow and painted lips with a coral shade that he mattified with a bit of powder. A small beauty spot on the left side of the face completed the look. Finally, fingernails and toenails got a coat of Deborah Lippmann's luxurious rose gold-hued satin-finish Glamorous Life nail color.
