Mercedes-Benz NYC Fashion Week Spring 2011: Costello Tagliapietra
At the Costello Tagliapietra show, lead artist Nelson Velcher and the rest of his team from the Rita Hazan Salon in NYC, created a formal chignon with a modern twist. "This style is a throwback to 'the lady'," Velcher said. "A time when women used to get dressed up." To move the look forward, Velcher placed the chignon just above the back of the ear and flattened it to look like what he called a "hat bun." Velcher used Phyto Phytovolume Actif Maximizing Volume Spray to achieve some lift at the root. "The look translates for either day or evening, perfect for the modern woman," he said.
The makup, designed by Lisa Butler for M.A.C, was based on Mia Farrow's look in The Great Gatsby. She applied Cream Colour in Root, a taupe shade, to the eyes from the lash line through the brow and underneath the eye, creating the effect of a shadow, then put mascara just in the center of the lashes. The cheeks got a touch of Brit Wit Cream Blush, and the lips had their color toned down with Lip Erase. "The cream colors are great because they go right into the skin," said Patrick Eichler, creative director of ColorCraft and a makeup artist at the show. "They appear as just a whisper of product."
