Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014 NYC: Prabal Gurung
For Prabal Gurung, the runway set the stage for the designer’s holographic patterns and street-chic styles for his Spring/Summer 2014 collection. For the hair look, Prabal was inspired by a 90’s raver girl, and he chose L’Oréal Professionnel Artist Anthony Turner to bring his inspiration to life. When I spoke with Anthony backstage he emphasized that he wanted the hair to have a matte look, as if the girl was out partying at a rave and hadn’t washed her hair for a few days. “She is the girl that isn’t trying hard who everyone takes notice of, the girl you look at in the club who everyone is drawn to” said Turner.
To create the look, center parted hair was dampened with water. Turner then used L’Oréal Professionnel Expansion mousse or L’Oréal Professionnel Lift Extreme Mousse, depending on the model’s hair type. For added lift, he applied Volumentry Root Spray to the roots. Strands were then blow dried with fingers, and ends were lightly scrunched to add texture. To get rid of any excess moisture L’Oréal Professionnel Fresh Dust was sprayed throughout the hair and then tucked behind the ears. For the final touch, L’Oréal Professionnel Infinium 3 hairspray was applied.
To complement the designer’s holographic textures, Butter London’s Global Colour Ambassador, Katie Jane Hughes applied butter LONDON Nail Foundation to the nails followed by the new butter LONDON Nail Lacquer in Leccy – a sheer, blue opal fleck overcoat. She placed colourful holographic foil down the center of six nails and completed the look by adding a glitter tip to three accent nails. Key makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics, Yadim, applied Sparkle Duo Jewel and 3D Silver Pro Glitter to the eyes to complete the chic, raver inspired look.
