Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall '10 NYC: Derek Lam
Derek Lam's rugged fall '10 collection was a modern take on the wild West, with an earthy color palette and lot's of leather, boots and fur seen in the looks. To balance out the menswear-influenced clothing, lead stylist for Moroccanoil Orlando Pita gave the hair a healthy, natural look by layering applications of Moroccanoil Luminous Hair Spray on, then blow-drying the hair while pulling it down with his hands. "It's all about the texture," Pita said. "It's ethereal, voluminous hair that moves a lot, is not too dry and is soft to the touch." To enhance the floaty effect, Pita pulled strands of hair out, away from the head, right before the models walked the runway.
Meanwhile, Estée Lauder made its debut at fashion week with Tom Pecheux at the helm. Pecheux, who was named Estée Lauder creative makeup director late last year, gave the models a dramatic appearance, with navy and royal blue shadow on the eyelids, a hint of brown shadow under the eyes, lots of mascara, and a brown shade of lipstick on the lips topped with a brown shadow that was gently tapped on to emphasize the color. "I wanted the models to look sensual and sexy," he said.
