The 4,000-square-foot Aveda lifestyle salon features an upscale, contemporary Asian-themed decor with 20 styling stations and a color palette of mango, tan and green. The salon's mostly affluent clientele appreciate the salon's relaxing atmosphere, top-notch services and educated stylists.

2. La Bella Hair Studio
La Bella Hair Studio employees go above and beyond to make sure that customer service is first-rate. Clients receive thorough consultations prior to services, advice on how to recreate their new looks at home, and complimentary paraffin dips and makeup touch-ups, ensuring they feel fully relaxed and pampered when they visit the salon. The 1,600-square-foot salon's serene decor, with earthy colors like blue, brown and cream seen throughout, adds to the relaxing experience.
While the salon sees many clients from Richmond, it also attracts people from the surrounding towns. "Most of our clients come in for a cut and color," says Jessica Menz-Crenshaw, owner of La Bella. "We try to change things up for our clients by suggesting something subtle but different, like adding a lowlight or brighter color for spring and summer."

3. Precision One Salon and Spa
"Our mission is to provide exceptional service to clients, so we focus on that every day," says Joyce Satterwhite, owner of Precision One Salon and Spa. Precision One delivers on this promise by giving clients a scalp massage when they get their hair washed and a foot soak with every spa service. "We have regular meetings where everyone is encouraged to give their input on everything from customer service to enhancing the services we offer," Satterwhite says.

4. Oasis by the Palms
The deep blue color palette, island music and tropical fragrances at Oasis by the Palms make clients feel like they're on vacation in Hawaii. Even though the 3,500-square-foot Redken Elite Salon opened only two years ago, it has developed a wide range of loyal clients because of its relaxing atmosphere, professional staff and menu of more than 90 services, including cuts, color, facials, waxing and massage. "We aim to give something back to the people who give all day long to their jobs and family," says owner Deborah Neher. "We treat every customer like they are our only client for the day."
