Celebrity stylist Ammon Carver has a knack for reading the stars—movie stars, that is. As an artistic designer and rising talent for Matrix, he recently teamed up with a few other Matrix artists to create looks for the company's new "On the Fringe" trend collection, inspired by celebrity styles from this season's runways and red carpets. So what does Carver predict we'll be seeing this spring? "Right now, it's all about healthy hair and silky strands that are in fantastic condition," he says. "Any style goes, just as long as it's shiny and soft. The most important thing is maintaining the integrity of the hair."

Carver's hairstyling career began just five years ago in Salt Lake City, but already his resume reads like an industry veteran's. When he's not teaching at the Matrix Global Academy in New York, he's busy styling such trendsetting celebs as Kirsten Dunst and Josh Hartnett, or applying his talents at high-profile events like the MTV Movie Awards, InStyle magazine's Clothes We Love fall fashion show and the Sundance Film Festival.
For Matrix's latest trend release, Carver and the artistic design team created styles that run the gamut from consumer friendly, highly commercial looks to more progressive ones, with strong lines and fringes. "Every look is meant to work two ways," says Carver. "Your clients can go from straight to curly depending on their mood or the occasion."

Carver recommends products from Matrix's Vavoom line for making sure updos stay up, and Curl.life Body Shaping Foam Mousse and All-Day Reactivator for creating and maintaining bouncy, frizz-free curls. "Celebrities don't want to wear their hair the same way to every award show, and your clients don't want to wear their hair the same way all the time either," he says. "These looks allow you to offer them versatility." And who doesn't appreciate that?
