Collective Soul

Kurt Kueffner and Lisa Williams of Bespoke Hair Artisans capture perspectives of beauty in real time.

In creating their collection, The Campaign, Bespoke Hair Artisans co-owners Kurt Kueffner and Lisa Williams, along with their salon team, spent weeks collaborating and contributing images to large mood boards that were arranged to become the inspiration for these hair, makeup and fashion looks. “This is an exercise that we’re committed to doing on an ongoing basis,” Kueffner says. “It gives the team a chance to speak to each other in a way that can’t be mimicked in any other environment.” The result: a window into the minds and moods of the team of stylists through black-and-white stills of beautiful hairstyles. —Kristen Heinzinger

IMAGE ABOVE: Kurt Kueffner, Lisa Williams and the Bespoke Hair Artisans team applied Kérastase Nectar Thermique from the mid-lengths to ends, created three sections and fashioned a side-part from the front to the nape. In each section, they applied Forme Fatale and created ponytails that were crimped and brushed before adding Shu Uemura Volume Maker and creating loose braids. They wrapped each braid around the head and secured to create a crown on top.

IMAGE ABOVE: For this voluminous style, Kueffner, Williams and the Bespoke Hair Artisans team applied Kérastase Homme Capital on hair, and blow-dried while scrunching to maintain curl, then parted hair to the side. Next they used Shu Uemura Extreme Urushi, adding lift at the front and continuing to scrunch curls, and finished with Kérastase Laque Dentelle for hold.

IMAGE ABOVE: On damp hair, Kueffner, Williams and the team applied Shu Uemura Fiber Lift. Then they sectioned hair into fours—top, back and sides—and blow-dried sides flat. Starting in the back, they blow-dried hair upward with a medium round brush. Once hair dried, they applied Shu Uemura Clay Definer, pushing hair up from front to back, and added Laque Dentelle.

IMAGE ABOVE: For this short crop style, Kueffner, Williams and the team used Kérastase Mousse Bouffante at the crown for volume and Nectar Thermique through the ends. They used a round brush from the crown to the fringe for volume. Once hair completely dried, the team flat-ironed to smooth the ends. Next they added Clay Definer and Shu Uemura Essence Absolue for a matte finish and defined layers, and called on Sheer Laquer for hold.
