Mercedes-Benz Fall ‘11 Fashion Week NYC: Alexander Wang
At the Alexander Wang show held at Pier 94, Redken’s Guido sought a “natural bed-heady look” to go with the fall 2011 collection. “I wanted an easy, cool east village style,” Guido said. First, he prepped the hair with Thickening Lotion 06 for all-over texture. To prevent the ponytail from looking heavy, Guido used a tight hidden braid under the top layer to reduce overall volume. “Young girls who have a lot of volume and a one-length cut need this to keep the look light,” he explained. Finally, he tied the ends to create a funneled ponytail, and touched up the crown and sides with Structure Wax 17 for a visible “piecey” finish.
The makeup by Diane Kendal for M.A.C featured a prominent, square brow using Brun Eye Shadow, no blush and Dim Lip Erase for a nude lip. “This is a rock but young and beautiful look—very Alexander Wang,” Kendal said. For the eyes, she used Smolder Eye Kohl rimmed around the eyes and then removed with a Q-tip to leave a softer line.
On nails, Butter London’s Nonie Creme customized a “light black” color using a few drops of Union Jack Black, one drop of Royal Navy and another drop of Hardware Topcoat. “Alex wanted a neutral nail, but not a traditional pretty nail. The idea is that the girl looks like she’s been walking out in the cold and her nails have gone slightly blue,” Creme explained. She finished off with a coat of Matte Finish Topcoat. —Clarissa Nebuya
