Mercedes-Benz Spring 2013 Fashion Week: Bibhu Mohapatra
At Bibhu Mohapatra’s runway show, he called upon Amit Abraham for L’Oréal Professsionnel to translate his symbolism of a luna moth and the transformation of a woman from his new collection into the hairstyle for the show.
Abraham decided on a sleek, modern and graphic ’do, opting for a deep center part from the forehead to the nape of the neck, splitting the hair into two and fishtailing both sections. The two tails were then intertwined together into a rectangular shape secured to the head with pins and then Abraham added a swipe of lime green eyeliner at the nape of the neck at the center part. Key products included Mythic Oil Milk Oil to prep the hair, Infinium 3 Hairspray for added hold while pulling the hair into two ponytails, Architecture Matte Defining Paste to keep flyaways at bay while braiding and Freezing Mist finishing spray to keep the entire style in tact.
Lead Stylist Gato for Maybelline New York channeled the evolution of a butterfly creating a face with subtleties and drama. He winged the eyeliner, used Shocking Coral lipstick below the lash line and blended it into the bronzer using his fingers. Gato used a pinkish-orange blush underneath the cheekbone and a soft pink right above the cheekbone, blended up towards the hairline. Finally, he used a nude lip color, dabbing it on with his fingers, to balance out the vibrant color around the eyes.
Nail Artist Honey used Maybelline New York’s Audacious Asphalt on the models’ nails and toes, also appealing to the luna moth and reincarnation inspiration of the color, which she believes resembles moon dust. —Aja Edwards
