Creative Connection

Scruples delivered education designed to motivate at its annual event in Minneapolis.

Inspiration, artistry and technical know-how took center stage at the Scruples 2013 Symposium. Held in August at the ultra-chic Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts in Minneapolis, the event drew a crowd of talented hairdressers from around the world. “We wanted to pull out all the stops to make attendees feel as if they were a part of the Scruples family,” said Scruples Co-president and Creative Director Mia Liguori McHugh.

The event kicked off with a welcome party that was followed by a runway show inspired by au courant fashion trends. Segments such as Hitchcock Nouveaux and the Indie Team collection were a huge hit with the crowd. Also earning high marks was a presentation that gave attendees a sneak peek of the Scruples’ Pearlscriptives line restage, which will debut in 2014. “We’re excited to polish up this beautiful gem so that it shines brightly for 30 more years,” Liguori McHugh said.

Day two’s agenda was filled with look-and-learn sessions led by the Scruples’ Master Design Team, Indie Team and Scruples International Creative Consultant Charlie Price. Attendees had the opportunity to get up close and personal with the artists, learning how to recreate looks from the Masters Collection, as well as consumer-friendly cutting, coloring and styling.

The day wrapped up with a class by Price, Scruples Master Design Team member Katie Nielsen and Director of Education and Scruples Academy Amie Breckenridge Goltz, who got attendees’ creativity flowing with a shoot for Scruples’ Pearl Classic Collection. “We wanted to show how you can break cutting rules with the foundation of Scruples Cutting by Design principles to recreate iconic looks,” Price said. ✂ —Kelley Donahue
