Driving the Message Home

Public Image Ltd. Salon, based in Wayne, NJ, recently hosted a beauty makeover event for students at Wayne Valley High School to raise awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving and to benefit MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). A peer council comprised of 28 students spearheaded the fundraising campaign by selling red ribbons to tie onto car antennas as a reminder not to drink and drive. The council also selected 30 students—boys as well as girls—who were treated to complimentary haircuts and makeup lessons at the salon. (Council members received free services too.) A local DJ spun music for the students while they received their services, and local restaurants donated refreshments. Goody bags, with samples of products from Toni & Guy, ABBA and Goldwell, were also given out.

MADD representative Bob Nulman spoke to the students about his son Dan, a 22-year-old college senior who, along with three of his friends, was killed by a drunk driver. "We can do something about drunk driving with the help of the community, police enforcement and by building more public awareness," Nulman told the students.

This is the second time Public Image Ltd. has donated its time and talent to help educate students and raise funds for MADD.
