Eco Briefs: Aveda Fredric’s Institute Celebrates Grand Opening of Earth Friendly School
Aveda Fredric’s Institute now calls a pre-existing 28,000 sq. ft. space its new home in West Chester, Ohio. Before owners Frederic and Julie Holzberger sought out to find a new space for their expanding school, they knew they wanted an area that would be exceptionally environmentally friendly.
The owners chose a pre-existing space instead of building something new, and set out to design the school to be ultra-green. The new school includes tankless hot water heaters, low energy ceiling fans, skylights and windows that protect against UVA exposure; as well as flooring made from renewable cork, recycled plastic service carts, water based paints, and sensors on lights, toilets and faucets to reduce waste.
Aveda Fredric's Institue will host “Appointments for the Earth” on Sunday, April 22 where all haircuts, hair color and nail service fees will be donated to the Ohio Sierra Club. —Aja Edwards
