Endless Summer

Looking for a faster, natural, easier and more cost-effective way to create sun-kissed highlights in younger clients' hair now that the lazy, hazy days of summer are nearing an end? Then try à l' éponge (translated: "with a sponge"), a brand-new technique from Begonia Fernandez de La Vega, a top haircolorist at PrivE9, a hip beauty establishment in Los Angeles. Here's how it works.

1 Beginning at the back, create veil-like hair sections in the top area of the head.

2 Blend Eugene Perma Solaris Lightening Powder with vitamins and essential oils that are appropriate for the hair type (vitamin E, jasmine and rose for dry hair; jojoba, geranium, rosemary and eucalyptus for oily hair; or sunflower, lavender and rose oils for normal hair) applying the mixture with a sponge under the hair strands on their length, taking extra care to avoid the roots. "Avoiding the roots is essential to producing hair growth that's more natural-looking and easier to maintain," says de La Vega.

3 Process for 15-45 minutes, depending on the desired effect.

5 Rinse the hair once the desired color has been achieved.—K.D.
