Get the Look: More Hairstyles from the 2014 Met Gala
The 2014 Met Gala continues to create buzz among fashion and beauty lovers. We asked more celebrity hairstyliststs to reveal their secrets for creating glamorous red carpet locks. Here are the step-by-steps from the experts:
Michelle Williams' 60’s inspired hair, created by Wella Professionals stylist Andy LeCompte, perfectly complimented her chic Louis Vuitton dress. To create the look, he primed the hair with Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier and blew it dry using a round brush to create natural volume. He then added 1-2 pumps of Wella Professionals Oil Reflections to hair for added shine. Creating a deep side part, he gently tucked each side behind the ears, finishing with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray to prevent flyaways.
Hair stylist Rod Ortega used T3 tools to create Blake Lively’s modern day take on Joan Crawford’s Victory Roll. He blew out her hair using the T3 Evolution Long Life Dryer and T3 Anti-Gravity 2.5” Barrel Brush.Starting at the nape of the neck, he then began curling the hair with the T3 1.25” SinglePass Twirl Curl Iron and then finger rolled each section into a pin curl. Once pin curls set and cooled, Rod flipped the hair over and began to brush out the curls creating deep waves with the T3 Paddle Brush. When finished, he flipped the hair back upright and brushed the hair from the part down to the roots. Next, on the side of the deep part, Rod then took a small section from the front and rolled the hair around his finger working toward the back and finishing behind the ear and securing with bobby pins – creating a “Joan Crawford-esque” Victory Roll on one side of the head.
Macadamia Natural Oil International Creative Director, Giannandrea created Naomi Watts' sleek French inspired up-do using Macadamia Natural Oil products. First, he had his client prep her hair the night before with Macadamia’s Deep Repair Masque, to improve elasticity and add shine. Once hair was prepped, he blow-dried it straight and created a deep side part. He then applied Healing Oil Treatment throughout hair and pulled hair back into a ponytail at the mid-center nape. To finish, he tied hair into a little bun using straight pins and sprayed with Macadamia Control Hairspray.
L’Oréal Professionnel’s Ambassadress, Kirsten Dunst captivated the Met Gala red carpet with a 30’s inspired galactic ballerina bun created by Hairstylist, Cervando Maldonado for L’Oréal Professionnel. To create the look, he prepped damp hair with L’Oréal Professionnel Mousse Volupté raking through with fingers. He then created soft finger waves at the crown by sweeping a 3-inch section towards the right side and adding bobby pins to set waves throughout the section. While the style set, he blew out the rest of the hair. He then brushed the dry hair back into a ponytail and secured just above the occipital bone, twisting hair into a tight ballerina bun, securing with bobby pins and hair pins. Once the front section was dry and set, he removed the bobby pins, brushed through and loosely secured the wave into the bun. He finished the look with with a light mist of L’Oréal Professionnel Mythic Oil Reinforcing Milk for red carpet read shine.
