Lessons For Success

To offer its members unprecedented education with three top artists, educators and fashion experts, the National Cosmetology Association is presenting its popular Lessons for Success program during the NCA's 86th annual convention on Saturday, March 4, 2006. Held in conjunction with the Chicago Midwest Beauty Show (March 4-6, 2006), the daylong event, at the Chicago Marriott O'Hare hotel, features three very special guest speakers: Sam Brocato, Vivienne Mackinder and Martin Parsons. Each of these master stylists and beauty industry leaders will share the lessons they learned in their lifelong journey toward success in the salon industry, volunteering their time and expertise to fellow beauty professionals. NCA members can look forward to the following topics from these industry luminaries.

BEING A HAIRDRESSER

"Being a hairdresser means believing that knowledge is the key to everyday beauty."

— SAM BROCATO

Get re-energized and find out how you can create a unique connection with your clients by adding a personal signature to your hair designs. Using his signature "down-home" approach to beauty, Brocato will lead you on an exploration of the lessons he's learned that form the structure and the soul of his work. Chairman of the NCA Disaster Relief Fund/Katrina, this Louisiana native has devoted countless hours to fundraising over the past five months to help ease the burdens of salon professionals affected by Hurricane Katrina. His tireless efforts have sparked the emotions of the entire industry to reach the fund's goal of raising more than $500,000 in donations.

INSIDE THE ARTIST'S MIND

"I encourage all hairdressers to have an insatiable hunger for knowledge. Our mantra should be to constantly study for empowerment."
—VIVIENNE MACKINDER

Understand what made such industry icons as Vidal Sassoon and Trevor Sorbie so respected, and learn how they became financially secure in an engaging program that goes inside the artist's mind to show you how to apply their important life principles to both your business and your creativity. Vivienne Mackinder, who regards both of these artists as her mentors, divides her time now among salon work, print and video productions, and special event styling for MTV, VH1 and the fashion runways. Her latest project is the DVD series I'm Not Just a Hairdresser, including Legends and the just-released Empires.
