Lori's Current Summer Obsessions
We're two weeks into summer, and I'm already obsessed with a few products that are helping me brave the beach each weekend. You'll be seeing some of them in upcoming issues of the magazine, but I didn't want you to miss out on using them even earlier in the summer:
1. Avance Suncures Body SPF 30 Oil-Free Sun Block. As any of you who have seen pictures of me in either the magazine (i.e. June Viewpoint) or on the blog can easily tell, I'm about as pale as they come. Sun and I don't usually get along very well, and I tend to burn within about 20 minutes of being outside despite coating myself in SPFs ranging from 45 to 70. Well, I decided to try this amazing sun block out, and after five straight hours in the sun over Memorial Day and even more than that this past weekend, I'm completely burn-free! I've praised this product to everyone on the beach with me, so I thought it was about time to share it with all of you! [UPDATE: Just learned this product was discontinued! Anyone have any other suggestions for great sunblock???]
2. Mario Badescu Oil-Free Moisturizer SPF 30. This new product has become a daily staple in my morning routine. I love the lightweight moisturizing properties (thanks to antioxidant green tea, aloe vera and St. John's Wort, among other ingredients), and the sun protection has proven to be very effective. I'm always nervous about putting sunscreen on my face because even those that claim to be non-pore-clogging can still make me break out, but this moisturizer/sunscreen combo has proven to be the perfect solution.
3. TIGI Catwalk Sleek Mystique Shampoo, Conditioner and Blow Out Balm. I've been very nervous about summer because of the havoc the humidity tends to wreak on my frizz-prone hair and the lack of time I've had to go in and get a keratin treatment. On my way out the door on Friday, I decided to grab my preview samples of TIGI Catwalk's new Sleek Mystique collection (launching in August) to bring with me to my beach house, and once I dried my hair, I couldn't have been happier that I did. Not only was my hair incredibly soft (all my friends kept touching it!), but despite the high humidity listed on the weather report, my hair remained remarkably frizz-free all day and night.
4. Dermalogica Solar Shield SPF15 Lip Balm. This is the first product I've tried from the company's new Daylight Defense Kit, which also includes Solar Defense Booster SPF30 (perfect to add to moisturizer), Multivitamin Bodyblock SPF20 and After Sun Repair. While some lip balms with SPF tend to be thick and grainy, this one contains a super-moisturizing formula that glides on easily and kept my lips protected all day. Looking forward to trying many more products by summer's end -- I'll keep you all posted on my favorites!
