The Makeup Show NYC Highlights

I attended The Makeup Show NYC yesterday at the Metropolitan Pavilion, where hundreds of makeup artists checked out makeup companies' booths, shopped, and attended seminars and workshops led by industry heavy-hitters. Popular booths included Make Up For Ever, where Creator and Artistic Director Dany Sanz transformed a male model into a glamorous diva; Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (OCC), which could hardly restock its supply of the new Lip Tar product fast enough for eager buyers; Temptu, where the company's makeup artists showed off their airbrushing skills; and Smashbox, which attracted a ton of shoppers. I also enjoyed checking out several seminars, including editorial artist James Vincent's demonstration on creating the makeup looks of iconic beauties like Deborah Harry; Kryolan's Color Forecast for Fall and Winter 2009/2010, presented by Dominic Cruz; and the Autumn/Winter Runway Trends Preview from M.A.C's Keri Blair and Chantel Miller. The highlight for me, though, was hearing Make Up For Ever's Sanz talk about her career as a makeup artist—she was actually a painter first—and watching her put her skills to work, creating a stunning makeup look on a model during her keynote presentation.
