Mercedes-Benz Fall 2012 Fashion Week NYC: Betsey Johnson

The color pink should simply be renamed Betsey Johnson. A total fashion icon and tiny ball of exuberant energy Betsey Johnson showed her Fall 2012 Collection—with plenty of pink—this week to a packed theater at Lincoln Center.

The theme of Betsey's collection and vision was 1960s and the hair by Aveda Lead Stylist Jon Reyman was an exact match for Betsey's vision: "The look is of that time when we went from 60s' bouffant into Valley of The Dolls, you know that long, silky, and straight 'Sassoony' hair," said Reyman."This time was Betsey's heyday and that's really what the collection is about."

For the models at Betsey, some girls had bangs, some not, but all had that flowy, straight look. Basically as a girl with bangs and longer locks myself, this is the era and the hair my head has been dreaming of for sometime!

To get the look, Reyman center-parted the hair and prepped it with Aveda Smooth Infusion and added Volumizing Tonic for, yes volume, but also for movement and glamorous oomph. The hair was then set with Control Force Firm Hold Hairspray. For two lucky models, Reyman created a super-fun 1960s-esque thick side braid with a side part.

The makeup was kept very sweet and pretty as done by lead makeup artists Charlotte Willer for Maybelline New York. Most of the girls had shadow from the Caffeine Rush collection of browns and some girls had one little sequin glued on each eyelid for added glam and effect. And of course, as Willer noted, "TONS of Falsies Flared Mascara."

Renee Meyers, guest artist for Sephora by OPI used two shades from the new Betsey Johnson polish collection from Sephora by OPI to create stripes to mimic the tights found in the collection. The colors What's a Tire Jack?, a jet black was paired with a super sparkly pinkish-silver called Sparkling Personality.
