Tibi's Fall 2012 collection was designed to convey the understated confidence associated with the women of the Beatles era. Using refined structure, the runway was clad with over sized coats, pencil skirts, bold textures and vivid prints. To complement the collection, the Aveda team, led by Frank Rizzieri and Kevin Ryan, matched the effortless cool with equally easygoing hairstyles. The Aveda mastermind duo began the night creating piece-y low buns then transitioned to loose waves and ultimately landed on the perfect pony. "It should look there's a sense of urgency," Ryan said. "You know when you've got somewhere to be and you just throw your hair together, missing a few bits here and there, we've sort of 'missed a few bits'."
To get the look, stylists prepped the roots and fringe with Aveda Volumizing Tonic to add a messy texture to the side swept bang they created with a deep side part. Looking to enhance texture further, stylists used Rsession's Nulu Waver Iron to create natural looking movement so it didn't get too curly and over-styled. Stylists alternated between using the double barrel prongs to create the unstructured texture and Air Control for a mold-able hold. Still not satisfied with the "prissy-ness" of the 'do, Ryan added Pure Abundance, a chalky powder, to give it the roughness he wanted. "It gives it that dusty, desert-y edge that's great for achieving a sort of undone look," Ryan said. "Plus, it's like a dry shampoo with a little extra hold." For the finishing touch, the team added Grooming Clay to a single weft of hair they then wrapped around the plastic band. The best kept trade secret to achieving the look—pull the fringe out from the fastened ponytail and using scissor style tweezers grip the bangs, pulling them up and under a section still pulled back right above the ear. Bobby pin it into place and the fringe will hold messy bangs in place as the model takes the runway. —M.R.
