Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014 NYC: Jonathan Simkhai

For his spring/summer 2014 collection, Jonathan Simkhai blended two subcultures into his clothing, drawing on the infamous fight between the Mods and Rockers at Brighton Beach in the 1960s. His collection is graphic and bold, to capture the rivalry, energy and movement of the groups’ clash. Catwalk by TIGI Global Creative Director Nick Irwin worked with Simkhai to come up with a relatable yet luxe hair look, further playing on the juxtaposition of the collection.

To create the hairstyle, Irwin made an off-center part from the hairline to the crown, smoothing with a paddle brush and prepping with Catwalk by TIGI Sleek Mystique Fast Fixx Style Prep. Next, he used a paddle brush and worked in Curlesque Strong Mousse through the hair, then blow-dried in sections and smoothed hair behind the ears and shoulders. Using Your Highness Shine Spray, he flat ironed small sections of hair for a sleek look. Lastly, he set the style with Sleek Mystique Look-Lock Hair Spray. Irwin described the overall look as very clean and simple.

For makeup, Gucci Westman used Revlon to create a fresh-faced look with darker eyebrows. She used just a touch of mascara as well as eye colors such as Cream Shadow in Not Just Nudes, ColorStay Shadowlinks in Chocolate and ColorStay eye liner in brown. Nails were colored with Revlon ColorStay Nail Enamel in Pink Cashmere and Smoky Matte Top Coat.
