Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014 NYC: Prism

Bathing suit label Prism debuted a Spring/Summer 2014 collection inspired by a futuristic but delicate idea of Japanese culture, on the roof of The Standard Saturday.

Essie's Rita Remark painted a special "prism" design on models' nails, using chrome-colored For the Twill of It, playing off the purple in the clothing, and used rich filler as a base coat. She filed a rounded nail shape to resemble a fan, as if "the girls are using their nails to fan themselves," Remark said, and to complement the theme of Japanese fans in the collection.

Original & Mineral Creative Director Janelle Chapman chose a sleek, androgynous hairstyle. First she prepped damp hair with O&M Rootalicious Root Lift Spray, then blow-dried strands straight. Next, she combined O&M Style Guru Styling Cream and Frizzy Logic Shine Serum and painted it on the hair for a sleek, wet-looking style with high shine, to give the impression the models had just gotten out of the water in their suits. Finally she clipped barrettes in sections for weight to keep the hair straight while it dried. On some models, she used hairnets to keep hair at the top flat to the head, and tucked it behind the ears.
