Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014 NYC: Rebecca Taylor

Rutger’s hair look for Rebecca Taylor’s show was “1990s grungy glamour,” he said, with a feel of a girl doing her own hair in a loose and random manner. The hair look complemented the ladylike clothing in Taylor’s collection, he added.

To get the look, Rutger used Oribe Hair Care products and began by spraying Foundation Mist into the hair to detangle it, adding moisture and evening out the hair’s texture, then brushing through and creating a natural part. He then blow-dried the hair with a boar bristle brush for a smooth finish. Beginning at the crown, Rutger took large sections of hair and wound them around the barrel of a medium-size curling iron to create bend in the hair. Next, he sprayed Dry Texturizing Spray at the roots to rough up the texture. He then put a little Smooth Style Serum on his fingertips and broke up the sections with his hands. He finished by spraying Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray on the ends for shine and separation.

Keri Blair led nails and Siri Bruinsma makeup, both using Mac Cosmetics. Blair created a raspberry red for nails by mixing Steamy and Flaming Rose. For toes, she used a nude color to create a “mannequin” look. For makeup, Bruinsma created coal-rimmed eyes to evoke a tough-girl image for Rebecca Taylor’s collection. She left the lips and cheeks matte to add emphasis to the eyes.
