Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2014 NYC: Steven Alan

Aveda had it all covered for the hair and makeup of Steven Alan's Spring/Summer 2014 presentation at New York Fashion Week.  Janell Geason, Aveda global artistic director, makeup and Jon Reyman, Aveda guest artist, created complementary make up and hair looks inspired by effortless beauty.

“The look for Steven Alan is modern and easygoing. We all wish we woke up looking this way," Geason said. "She is flawless without looking like she has a lot of makeup on."

Geason created a fresh look inspired by the collection’s muted bright colors and feel-good soft construction. She ensured the skin to be healthy-looking and luminous and kept it appearing air-brushed as opposed to cakey.

For the hair, Reyman complemented the laid back makeup look with soft, gentle waves for the hair to give off the illusion that the girl doesn't care too much about how her hair looks. It's a touseled look showing that the girl is cool and effortlessly chic.

“This look has a subtle attitude. It’s loose and tousled, cool and casual.” Reyman said.

HAIR STEPS:
Step 1: Blow-dry hair with a Mason Pearson brush to create a very full tousled look.
Step 2: Apply Aveda Volumizing Tonic at the root of the hair for light hold and a little shine. Dry hair flat at the roots.
Step 3: Add Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion throughout the hair to naturally bulk up and thicken hair.
Step 4: Create varied, natural looking waves throughout the hair by rolling sections of hair around two fingers and setting the curl with a flat iron.
Step 5: Add movement by creating bends in the hair with the flat iron.

Step 6: Finish with Aveda Control Force Firm Hold Hair Spray to smooth flyaways and set waves.

MAKE UP STEPS:
Step 1: To create a flawless-looking complexion with a semi-matte finish, apply Aveda Inner Light Concealer with a medium eye color brush as needed. Blend into the skin with a blush brush.
Step 2: Using the ring finger, press Aveda Petal Essence Eye Color in Burnished Bronze* onto the eyelid to add a slight sheen, blending well to remove harsh lines. Dab Aveda Petal Essence Eye Color in Peony Blush* to the center of the lid to open the eye.
Step 3: To highlight brows without being overdone, scrape a bit of Aveda Petal Essence Eye Definer in Cacao onto a spooly and brush through the brow.
Step 4: Curl lashes and apply one coat of Aveda Mosscara for definition, brushing out any clumps.
Step 5: Set makeup and reduce extra shine by lightly applying Aveda Inner Light Mineral Loose Powder over the t-zone and other shiny areas with Aveda Uruku Bronzing Brush. Step 6: Add color by applying a light dusting of Aveda Petal Essence Face Accents in Tesserae or Peach Lights to the apples of the cheeks.
Step 7: Press Aveda Nourish-Mint Sheer Mineral Lip Color in Sheer Muscadine* onto the lips to create a natural looking stain effect. Dab Nourish-mint Rehydrating Lip Glaze in Rose Copper* to the middle of the lip only to add dimension.
