Mercedes-Benz Spring 2013 Fashion Week: Haus Alkire

Inspired by a Vesper bat-like creature that resides on a Polynesian island, the look at Haus Alkire was an angelic, mysterious woman emerging from glorious, enchanting nature.

To create a style representing this theme, Lead Stylist Marco Lafrate, the Creative Director for Catwalk by TIGI Italy, styled the models’ hair with a center part adorned with a twist, an imperfectly wrapped bun at the crown of the head bonded with an elastic string, and the rest of the hair was whimsically curled then brushed out for frothy texture. Key products for the style were Catwalk Firm Hold Hairspray used to prep the hair and Work It Hairspray, a medium hold spray, to keep the brushed out texture light yet in place.

Lead Artist Fatima Thomas for M.A.C Cosmetics took the nature theme and created a face that was fresh but not too done. The makeup was airy with washes of peach and neon yellow but with minimal intensity so there was a suggestion of color that wasn’t overbearing. She used a peachy-orange lipstick on the lid and a nude lip color to tone down the models’ natural lip pigment.

Priti NYC’s Nail Artist Gerry Holford painted on two coats of Envy, a grungy gray with a hint of green very similar to the color of moss. The nails were a natural shape and two coats of color with a shiny topcoat finished off the entire woodland-inspired look. —Aja Edwards
