Mercedes-Benz Spring 2013 Fashion Week NYC: Band of Outsiders

Scott Sternberg, designer of the brand Band Of Outsiders has a thing for the controversial Japanese military thriller Battle Royale from director Kinji Fukasaku, so much so that the film served as inspiration for his Spring 2013 collection that features war paint and lotus flower prints as well as macramé.

Lead Hairstylist Didier Malige for Aveda kept the theme going with lose, unkempt waves and a deep side sweep over the top right side of the forehead to create a bit of mystery. "The top is neat, but the bottom loose and messy," Malige said.  The base of the hair was blown dry and Aveda's Volumizing Tonic was a key product for lift and softness. Malige then used Aveda Pure Abundance for additional prep for the loose waves.

Dick Page for Shiseido kept things quite matte and subtle, except for the one very striking feature, the horizontal "football-esque" slashes of white under the eyes. This lent to a military influence, again tying the look in with the collection and the film. This, said Page, gives the face personality without a specific eye or lip.

Katie Hughes for Butter London kept the nails matte with Butter's nail foundation and then topped with Butter Matte Finish top coat.
