Pastel hair is having a moment. One of the hottest trends in haircolor, everyone from celebrities like Katy Perry, Nicole Richie and the Olsen twins to the girl down the street are sporting all shades of the rainbow.
Jason Backe, L’Oréal Professionnel celebrity colorist and president and CEO of Ted Gibson Beauty, recently performed a beautiful makeover on Good Morning America, taking a model from cool platinum blonde to gorgeous candy pink using L’Oréal Professionnel Dia Light 10.12 with a 1-inch ribbon of 5.66 with 15-volume.
“As with any haircolor, skin tone and eye color should be taken into account. For fair skin pastels are great. For olive or darker shades vibrant/intense tones are best,” says Backe when consulting with clients about choosing the best pastel shade. “Right now everyone is asking for pink and lavender. Even conservative clients like to see a hint of violet on their highlighted pieces.”
