Washington Stylists Compete in Lather, Rinse, Defeat Contest

Hairstylists in the Walla Walla, WA, area recently competed in a hair and makeup styling event named ‘Lather, Rinse, Defeat,’ their own local version of Bravo’s Shear Genius.

For four weeks, stylists competed in randomly assigned teams. Local business owners presented the challenges with themes related to their businesses. For example, Babycakes, a local gourmet cupcake specialty shop, presented a challenge with its famous cupcakes and the inspiration keyword ‘beehive.’

The judging categories were: Originality, Technical Skills, Challenge Translation, and Team Contribution. The scoring based equally on votes from an expert panel of judges and online voting through Facebook.

Hair was colored and teased into towering structures that could fit right in at a modern art museum exhibit…or at any of their local-business inspirations. From cupcakes to jewelry, the inspired-makeup and outfits looked just as pretty and colorful.

Carlie Hatley-Gordon won first place, Erica Neace in second, and Sierra Zamora in third. Emilee Hendrickson also won the MVP title for the competition. Lather, Rinse, and Defeat organizers and participants said they already look forward to next year’s competition.
