Aveda Hosts Master Jam in Milan

Aveda hosted its largest—and greenest—Master Jam event to date in Milan, Italy, in March. More than 1,000 beauty professionals representing 10 countries turned out for the bash to learn new techniques and experience spectacular performances. "Master Jam is a wonderful opportunity for members of the Aveda tribe to learn, network and exchange ideas with their European counterparts," says Amanda Le Roux, general manager of Aveda Europe. Nexxus Roadster Giveaway

At the recent Chicago Midwest Beauty Show, Nexxus Beauty Products was proud to offer a sweepstakes competition, the "Beauty Accelerated: 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster Giveaway," which was open to licensed hairstylists, barbers, manicurists, massage therapists and estheticians who attended the show and filled out an entrance form at the Nexxus booth. Of more than 8,000 entrants, the winner drawn was Sherry Wood, a hairstylist from Trio & Co. in Louisville, KY. Matrix Color Gallery Makeover Contest

Matrix recently selected the winners of its first Matrix Color Gallery Salon Makeover Contest. Lisa Love from Salon 22 in Pittsburgh, PA, and Carol Isaacs and Laurie Dowd from Image Makers in Newburgh, IN, were the grand-prize winners. They won a Matrix Color Gallery, which was planned and built exclusively for their salons, and an all-expenses paid trip to the Matrix Global Academy in New York City to attend a course of their choice. "We were looking for the Color Gallery to really bring color services to the forefront of the salon, generate interest among clientele and let existing clientele know that their colorist is really an artist," says Elisa Delarm, director of marketing–haircolor for Matrix. "This is the ultimate salon-centric program, because it enables us to be as close to the hairdresser as possible, touch their lives, plus help them grow their business, which is our ultimate goal."



Joico Teams Up with Sub-Urban Brands

Joico and Sub-Urban Brands joined together for a star-studded event held at Boulevard 3 in Los Angeles during Fashion Week. Celebrities including Jesse Plemons from Friday Night Lights, Steve Valentine from Crossing Jordan and Lindsay Lohan were among the attendees. Guests viewed three of Sub-Urban's brands: The Apparel Agent, REO Starr Jeans and Whiteboy, while Joico stylists did their hair. All guests left with Joico's new K-PAK Sun Therapy System. The Nourishing Shampoo, Treatment Masque and Protective Sun Milk repair and deliver moisture to sun-damaged strands.

American Crew Honors Fathers

American Crew is honoring fathers and sons this month with complimentary, full-sized bottles of its popular Daily Shampoo with the purchase of a regular-priced haircut as part of its annual Father's Day promotion. Creative Nail Blooms at Flower Show

In April, Creative Nail Design created nail styles to complement the Flora Exotica theme at the 33rd Annual Macy's Flower Show window installation at Herald Square in Manhattan. The show featured more than 1 million flowers, plants and trees from six continents. Creative Nail developed nails for the mannequins in the windows that represented the floral themes of Spring, Hydrangea, Black & White, African, Asian and Rainforest.

PureOlogy Supports Ovarian Cancer Research

PureOlogy Serious Colour Care recently donated more than $11,000 to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC). The company raised awareness of the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer by distributing literature to more than 13,000 salons during events held across the country. The company also staged a contest with their sales managers, which encouraged them to develop creative and unique programs to raise awareness. "Our work with NOCC has helped inspire and encourage our corporate employees, our sales team and hopefully all of our PureOlogy consumers," says Cheryl Markham, PureOlogy co-founder and vice president of communications. "We want to be known as a company that cares and utilizes our resources to make a positive impact on the community and potentially save lives."

Belvedere Launches New Web Site

Belvedere USA Corporation, manufacturer of salon and spa equipment and furnishings, recently launched an updated version of its Web site, belvedere.com. The updated site includes product search options and current news and information, and it also ensures quicker response and better graphics. "This is an important step for the entire Belvedere organization," says Horst Ackermann, Belvedere's managing director. "We want our Web site's visitors to have the same kind of customized experience they find when coming to a Belvedere showroom location. Redken Names New Education Artistic Director

Redken recently announced the promotion of Sam Villa to Redken Education Artistic Director. He will work with two other artistic directors to train the entire Redken Artist Network. Villa is known for his down-to-earth approach to education and was chosen for his unique way of sharing his knowledge and putting people at ease while teaching. He has more than 27 years of experience as an educator for major salon companies and has been with Redken for the past 10 years. "There is no doubt that Sam takes coaching and training to another level and really makes it his own," says Christine Schuster, senior vice president of education for Redken. "His ability to mentor and inspire others in their work has taken him to where he is today and is what makes his name so recognizable in the industry."

David Guerin's Surprise Visit

David Guerin, global artistic director for Oster Professional Products, recently visited Rockabilly Barbers in Huntington, NY, to surprise owner Robert Wagner and his team. "We all have visions, and it's great to meet someone who has had success in achieving his," says Guerin. "Robert's shops (he owns four Rockabilly Barbers) in Long Island are the product of his dedication to not only himself, but also to his staff and his community. We shared a lot of our insights on opportunities to give back to the community and how we can make a difference."
