Zoom Ahead

In March, hundreds of stylists from across the country gathered at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to attend Goldwell's Trend Zoom 05, which offered two days of inspiration, entertainment and networking opportunities.

An evening cocktail reception kicked off the event and was followed by a lavish hair/fashion show that included 60 models wearing Goldwell's latest looks. The next morning, stylists learned the techniques needed to recreate the trends: Ethic Flow, Graphic Twist and Wild Deluxe.

Geometric patterns, bold color contrasts and asymmetry give Graphic Twist its modern edge.

Inspired by natural materials, calm colors, and soft surfaces and textures, Ethic Flow is firmly rooted in nature and harmony. Styles include structured, layered hair at the back with a smooth asymmetrical front, and a blunt cut at the front and crown with texture at the sides and back. Graphic Twist, on the other hand, emphasizes contrast: Different lengths on top and around the perimeter of the head enhance the use of contrasting colors. The third trend, Wild Deluxe, taps into the beauty and opulence of such natural materials as fur and feathers. Extreme contrasts of short and long, straight and curly play against soft colors to create a sophisticated, exotic look.

Trend Zoom 05 also included a presentation given by HTP Concept, a market research company that teamed up with Goldwell to identify trends for 2006. The company researched the hair industry in five countries for four months—taking photographs of people on the street, looking at salon concepts and studying products. Included in the company's style forecast are strong fringe lines, heavy texture, strict parting, perms and big, bouncy curls. Color trends include subtly placed color, colored panels or frames, and contrasting hues on the crown and ends of the hair.

By the completion of Trend Zoom 05, stylists had more than enough inspiration and instruction to take home to their salons, proving that whatever happens in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas.
