How to Replicate Betty Draper 'Do

From wardrobes to hairstyles, AMC’s popular series Mad Men has ignited a 1960s resurgence. If it hasn’t already happened, you’re bound to have a client request that you recreate the shoulder-length elegance of the Betty Draper’s signature style.  Here, Mad Men Hair Department Head Stylist Terrie V. Owen reveals her step-by-step guide to achieving January Jones' signature "Betty" style.

Start by creating a side-part, sectioning off parallel wefts of hair into smaller sections. Spray with White Sands Liquid Texture Thermal Styling Spray and curl each piece under towards the face using a ¾-inch curling iron. Clip each curl in place before moving onto the next section.

Once the whole head is set, let the hair cool off before brushing it out. Then, brush hair straight down with a Mason Pearson Hairbrush until smooth. With Bumble and bumble Grooming Creme on your fingertips, push the desired waves into place.

“I personally love the classic smooth brushed-out look,” Owen says. “But, you can also modernize this style by using just your fingers to style hair instead of a brush to get more of a textured, piecey look.”
