Katharine Polk, designer of Houghton, created the Spring 2014 collection at the end of last spring during her vacation in Miami. Polk was inspired by her surroundings including chunky basket weaves on lounges chairs and sunset hues. “The pieces have a light air to them, like palm fronds shifting in the warm breeze,” she says. For the hair, L'Oréal Professional Artist Laura Polko wanted to enhance the beach inspired look by creating a modern twist on a braid and fishtail, depending the model. “It’s fresh and simple- the hair needed to move with the clothes and feel roughed-up and beachy,” Polko said.
To create the look, Polko applied a mixture of L'Oréal Professional Mousse Volupté and L'Oréal Professional Volumetry Root Spray from the roots to the ends. She proceeded to roughly blow-dry the hair giving it extra lift and texture on the crown then creating a center part and before applying L'Oréal Professional True Grip to the entire head for extra grip. Polko loosely pulled the hair back about an inch above the nape of the neck and secured the hair with elastic. She teased the hair with her fingers and created either a braid or fishtail. To finish the look, Polko pulled out a few pieces around the face to create a beachy, lived-in feel then sprayed the hair with L'Oréal Professional Infinium 3 Hairspray.
Director of MAC Cosmetics Lyne Desnoyers used a variety of MAC Cosmetics to create the look focusing on luminous skin for a simplistic feminine face. For the eyes and cheeks, she opted for shimmery shades of peach and rose. She finished the look by dabbing a light mauve lipstick to the model’s lips.
