Help is on the Way

Without a doubt, the most heartwarming experience from that weekend took place on Sunday, when our industry's living legends came together to raise money for NCA's Disaster Relief Fund/Katrina. The top names in the business, including Robert Cromeans, Robert Lobetta, Sam Brocato, Michael O'Rourke, Ruth Roche and Zak Mascolo, came out to rally the crowd and raise money for those affected. It showed me, once again, that we are a caring and loving industry that comes together in a time of need. Their efforts added $200,000 to the fund, putting the total sum raised at more than $1 million. According to NCA Executive Director Gordon Miller, "This is the most money the industry has ever raised to help its own. We told those involved to check their ego, check their brand, and check their beauty politics at the door and help fellow beauty professionals in need, and they did just that. NCA really appreciates the thousands of people who joined to make this possible."

OPI is also lending a helping hand by creating Red-y To Help, a new nail lacquer made exclusively to salute and benefit the American Red Cross. A dollar from every purchase of Red-y To Help will go toward the organization. Red-y To Help also joins in marking the 125th anniversary of the American Red Cross, which is also OPI's 25th anniversary. "The American Red Cross has provided hope to countless people in need for the past 125 years," said OPI President and CEO George Schaeffer. "We are honored to be part of their continued efforts and proud that we can help in this way." OPI and its employees have made tremendous contributions to the American Red Cross. After Hurricane Katrina, the Schaeffer Family Foundation donated more than $300,000 through a matching-funds program with OPI employees and others.
