FYI: THE LATEST BEAUTY INDUSTRY SCOOP

Beauty devotees came to Las Vegas for exceptional learning opportunities and they got all that, plus a lot more, at John Paul Mitchell Systems's A Signature Gathering 2002. More than 2,500 salon consultants, distributors, and hairdressers attended the three-day symposium, which was staged at the Caesar's Palace this past July.

The event kicked off with a general session led by company founder and CEO John Paul DeJoria. "People often ask me when I'll 'sell out, '" commented DeJoria. "The answer is never. John Paul Mitchell Systems will forever be a salon-only brand, catering to the needs of salon professionals. Hairdressers made John Paul Mitchell Systems what it is today, and John Paul Mitchell Systems will continue to faithfully service their needs."

Vice president of marketing Nina Kovner kept the momentum going by revealing the company's latest product debuts, including Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Daily Boost Root Lifter; Paul Mitchell Re-Works Versatile Texture Cream; Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Hair and Scalp Treatment; Paul Mitchell Color Protect Daily Shampoo; Conditioner and Color Protect Locking Spray; Modern Elixirs Illuminating Shine Spray; and the new True Red Series and Blonding System, both from Paul Mitchell The Color. Artistic presentations accompanied each new product announcement.

Dazzling shows and hands-on workshops designed to inspire attendees were a big part of the mix. Paul Mitchell artistic director Robert Cromeans and A Robert Cromeans Salon Team artistic director Stephanie Kocielski talked cutting and styling; Takashi Kitamura, Kelly Cardenas, and Marcus Hanish, members of the A Robert Cromeans Salon Team, shared their expertise in cutting and styling men's hair; Winn Claybaugh and Giulio Veglio motivated the crowd; and Paul Mitchell The Color artistic directors Scott Cole and Linda Yodice showed how to take full advantage of the beauty and profitability of haircolor.
