A Good Year

2007 is a milestone year for both the International Beauty Shows and American Salon magazine. While we are celebrating our 130th year in publishing, IBS New York turns 90 this year. The show has a long and storied history. Some of you may remember when it was held at the Coliseum in Manhattan before it moved to the Jacob Javits Convention Center in the late 1980s. Recently I went through our archives and found a few photos from past shows. It was nice to find a photo of the Pibbs booth—they've been a longtime supporter of IBS New York. I also found one of Lee Rizzuto, Jr. with his father at the Conair booth more than 20 years ago. Now Lee Jr. is senior vice president of the company.

 1. An IBS NY show program circa the 1980s; 2. a Lustre Silk stylist onstage; 3. platform artists at Pibbs; 4. Conair's Lee Rizzuto, Sr. (second from left) and Lee Rizzuto, Jr. (far right) in the early '80s; 5. stylists demonstrated their hairdressing skills at our shows; 6. getting a look just right.

While it's always nice to reminisce, I don't want to lose sight of the fact that IBS New York is still a vital part of the beauty industry. This year, the show will be held on March 11-13 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center where Main Stage talent will include Wella's Nick Arrojo, media darling Mark Garrison, the elegant Martin Parsons, Aveda's Charlie Price, Product Club Artistic Director and Redken Educator Patrick McIvor and Matrix's Nicholas French.

Workshops include everything from fashion to hair color, makeup to nails. Hair will be the main focus in classes from Mike Karg, Arnold Zegerelli, Yves Durif, Yosh, BIA International and others. There will also be plenty to learn about business from Deb Hunt, Lauren Gartland, Gary Ahiquist, Bryan Durocher, Ken Manuel, Larry Oskin and many more. Check out the complete schedule in this issue, then order your tickets online at ibsnewyork.com.

Finally, I'd like to announce our first annual Professional's Choice Awards. That's where you come in. We'd like you to cast your vote for your favorite products, distributor, platform artist, industry professional, software and ad campaign. Turn to page 167 to read all about it.
