Saving the Earth
In a show of support for the Endangered Species Act, the Aveda Corporation presented a collection of over 160,000 signatures to Representative Betty McCollum (D-MN) on Capitol Hill last July. The petition was circulated during Aveda's annual Earth Month campaign in April, when the company's spa and salon network raises funds and builds public awareness of key environmental issues. Over the past four years, the Aveda network has raised more than $3.5 million for Earth Month partner organizations working for biodiversity protection around the world. This year's campaign focused on threats to our nation's endangered fish, plant and wildlife, and to the Endangered Species Act itself, and raised more than $1 million for conservation efforts and scientific organizations working to save imperiled plants.
"The petition signatures presented here are a great representation of the 86 percent of American voters who support the Endangered Species Act," said Brock Evans, president of the Endangered Species Coalition. "We owe it to our children and grandchildren to be good stewards of the environment and leave behind a legacy of protecting endangered species and the special places they call home."
