St. Petersburg, FL
These three salons in St. Petersburg, FL, also known as “The Sunshine City,” are hot spots for customers seeking personalized treatment.
Number 9 Salon
Inside 1,100-square-foot Number 9 Salon, customers find a blend of rustic charm and modern elegant decor—a look that co-owner Frank Prescott says speaks volumes about the salon services. “Our look embodies our craft; we’re constantly evolving as trends emerge, yet we still honor classic style,” says Prescott, who co-owns the salon with wife Jennifer Carey-Prescott. Number 9 Salon, in business since 2008, offers beauty services ranging from haircuts to texturizing treatments to bridal makeup. The most popular one is haircolor, which Prescott attributes to having three lines for stylists to choose from. The salon also has an online stylist match system, in which clients complete a form about their hair needs and preferences, and are paired with the appropriate stylist.

J.Con Salon at Gateway
St. Petersburg residents and visitors seeking a truly relaxing salon experience flock to J.Con Salon at Gateway, which opened March 2013. The salon plays music through outdoor speakers to welcome clients, and guest service coordinators offer beverages such as coffee and Aveda Comforting Tea. The 2,700-square-foot space also includes an outdoor garden patio lush with foliage for guests to relax between services or while their haircolor is processing. “It’s our mission that each and every guest feels right at home, and that they’re comfortable and happy throughout their entire salon experience,” says Joe Connell, the salon’s founder and owner. Services at J.Con Salon at Gateway include haircuts and color, extensions, and hair removal, among others. Connell says he wants the salon to be known as a great place to work and for guests to experience calm, personalized appointments.

Hair On Central
Located in downtown St. Petersburg amid shops and restaurants, Hair On Central is an inviting oasis for guests seeking cuts and color, bridal updos, blowouts and more. The most popular services are keratin treatments, hair extensions, and cutting and finishing techniques, according to owner Darla Pederson. The salon—which opened in 2010 and has five employees—is known for its hospitality toward local and out-of-town guests. “Our hip atmosphere and approachable staff create an environment in which all our guests feel welcome,” Pederson says. To build a relationship with local businesses, Hair On Central hosts wine and cheese socials and also participates in charities such as Cut for a Cure, in which community members shave their heads to raise money for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
