Hairbrained How-to: Silky, Rose-Gold Red

Mastering the perfect shade can be tricky – but it can be even more challenging to reach your color-goals while maintaining the integrity of your locks. Here to share her simple failsafe formula is Caitlin Senna, AJF Salon Stylist and Top Hairbrained Member. Read on to discover how you can create this on-trend rose-gold red, plus keep your client’s mane silky, shiny and smooth, too.

Step 1: Pre-lighten the hair to an even level 9 using a low volume developer. In most cases, it isn’t necessary to go higher than 6 percent, or 20-volume. Though it may slows down the process, the end results will be worth your patience and persistence. Using a high volume lightener will blow-open the cuticle layer, resulting in tattered ends and excessive damage.

Step 2: Shampoo the hair, and lightly condition the ends. Rinse well and towel dry, removing all excess moisture from strands.

Step 3: Formulate your toner as follows: Mix 25 grams of an ash base level 9 with 1 grams of a red-violet base level 6. Then, mix with 2 parts 6-volume developer; in this case, that would call for 52 grams of developer.

Step 4: Apply the formula to the base, first, and then pull through to the mid-lengths and ends.

Step 5: Shampoo, making sure to completely remove color from the hair. Leftover color can result in porosity, which can cause your client’s hue to fade more quickly. Follow with a rich conditioner.

When creating iconic, on-trend hues, never rush. Remember that patience prevails, and that working slowly and methodically will pay off, every time. For more eye-catching looks, visit hairbrained.me and become a member, today!
