A haircolor consultant for Redken 5th Avenue, spokesperson for Redken’s Art of the Consultation and NYC- based salon colorist, David Stanko has developed, evaluated, launched and taught professional haircolor all around the world. With the successful launch of his Lifestyle Coloring and Midtown Single DVDs – and the anticipation of his upcoming Formula Boss guide – the demand for his signature classes has increased immensely. Attendance at his in-salon, distributor-related and international appearances are at an all-time high.
“Even with the proliferation of online learning, to which I contribute, there is still a great need for hands-on classes that blend technical, artistic, business-building and client-keeping information. Through my classes and my DVDs, online and even on Facebook, I show colorists various ways to have a continuous client flow and a healthy income for life by diversifying their clientele, customizing their color work and bundling services.”
A long-time favorite of print-media editors, Stanko has also conquered the blogosphere. His new-media and social-networking savvy has made him one of the most searched for colorists online and the go-to color source for bloggers, who are enamored with his consumer-friendly language, unique techniques and customized-color approaches. As a result, he has been featured on dozens of blogs (advicesisters, dbeautyjunkie, agirlsgottaspa, dailymakeover, mystylebelle), as well as beauty trade and consumer websites. Additionally, his work or wisdom has appeared in nearly every major trade and consumer print magazine, including Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, In-Style, Latina, Self and Elle; American Salon, Modern Salon, Launchpad and The Colorist. Most recently, he was tapped to interview other professionals (Oribe, Guido) for stylistvoice.com
“I’m always doing people’s haircolor in my head. The woman sitting across from me on the subway, the girls who pass me at a sidewalk café,” says Stanko. “New York is an easy place to be a voyeur and spot trends-in- the-making. And every silent encounter becomes a color critique. What would have made this person’s color even better? I’m always exploring the ‘or’ in haircolor – wondering what brand I’d use and which shade I’d choose.”
In both 1999 and 2000, David Stanko was named “Best Educator” and “Most Inspirational Educator” at Haircolor USA. His alma mater, Pittsburgh Beauty Academy, as well as the Pennsylvania Association of Private School Administration, have inducted him into their Halls Of Fame. He customizes all his salon seminars in a manner that allows professionals to have as personalized a color program as his salon clients do.
