Marianne Dougherty is Editor in Chief of American Salon. During her 26 years as a beauty editor and publisher, she has put her creative spin on a variety of magazines and has traveled all over the world to cover the latest beauty trends, interview high-profile beauty professionals or report from international trade shows and events. Years ago someone she worked for told her, “You have too many ideas; you make my head hurt.” As if that was a bad thing. Those ideas have included an award-winning feature predicting the day spa trend, an annual report from Cosmoprof Bologna, and new publications like Shades of Beauty and American Spa. She has been a keynote speaker at any number of industry events and has judged national competitions like NAHA and Goldwell Color Zoom. In 2001 HarperCollins published Asian Beauty, which she co-wrote with celebrity makeup artist Margaret Kimura. She was also a beauty consultant on Live in LA, was interviewed for Lifetime Network’s New Attitudes and has appeared on Weekend Today New York. Today she happily resides in Santa Barbara, California.
