I first met Sonya Dove in 1999 at a big beauty show in Long Beach, California (now known as the International Salon and Spa Exposition Long Beach) where she was part of a group of Wella Professionals artists volunteering their considerable talents to training members of the National Cosmetology Association (NCA) Design Team. I was executive director of NCA at that time and in need of help. Sonya was a shining star amongst a constellation of stars who came to my rescue–leaving a long-lasting impression upon me as a quiet, calm, strong creative force who led with kindness and intelligence.
Over the years, our paths have crossed many times, and my first impression of this amazing woman has only been validated, time and time again. Today, Sonya remains a leading educator and creative director within Wella, and is recognized all over the world for brilliant color work and stage presence. She is also a working salon colorist, haircutter and stylist, as well as a salon owner. Most recently, Sonya was appointed Color Director with Intercoiffure North America (in addition to her role with Wella), volunteering once again to support our larger community of professionals.
